The Contrast and Cohesion exhibition presents G8A’s designs through video installation, photography & visual documentation. The project highlights the agency’s international scope & focus on interdisciplinary practice, and is put forward to celebrate the release of the “Contrast and Cohesion” publication dedicated to G8A’s work. The spatial and conceptual qualities of G8A’s architectural projects are explored through contemporary dance, costume and an original score. Composed as a video installation work, the piece opens the design conversation to cross-creative collaboration, a cornerstone in the working practice of G8A.
“The expansion of an architectural practice from Switzerland to Asia, and specifically from Geneva to Hanoi and Singapore, is an unlikely career move. Not relocation so much as dislocation. Both culturally and architecturally, G8A have not acquiesced to preconceived notions of irreconcilable contrasts. They have instead connected and conjoined, and they have adapted and assimilated. G8A have maintained a thematic continuity, which has resulted in a cohesion: one that can be formally deciphered in terms of architecture and construction, and perhaps more pertinently, in terms of society and sustainability.”
